Fighting Together!

Fighting Together is a non-governmental organization that was established to help citizens with social issues they encountering. It focuses more on unemployment. Since the Covid-19 outbreak there has been alot of changes all around the world. The first covid 19 case in South Africa was during February last year. Since then, the virus has been the worst virus to ever exist. It has claimed so many lives, created many issues, and unemployment is the biggest one of all. It has also changed the economy as well. Fighting Together not only assists the unemployed but it is there to also help people fight the virus by educating those who lack information and correcting the conspiracy theories flying around.

When South Africa had its first covid 19 case it was a disaster. Many were panicking and out of fear started creating and spreading information that was not true about the virus. Those who were misinformed took this information seriously. Some went as far as stating the virus does not affect black people. This made many to be negligent and not take the precautions seriously. Others have said the virus does not exist. It was a lot of different theories going around that were not true. This made a lot of people to even take the virus lightly. This led to many deaths, increased number of cases everyday and caused lot of countries including South Africa to undergo lockdown. Lockdown was introduced by the government to try and control the cases and hopefully decrease the number of people testing positive everyday. This new procedure did maintain the curve of infected people but it only worsened a very big social issue which is unemployment. Many business were forced to shutdown and people lost their jobs and some were retrenched increasing a number of unemployed people. Fighting Together organization was then establish to try and compensate the unemployed and educate those who still lack information about covid 19.

After everything that went on and adjusting to new covid regulations and lockdown restrictions, a vaccine was discovered. South Africa had the first batch of vaccine early this year. The government aimed to first vaccine health workers. Other conspiracy theories came out, worse than the first ones. People started going over on social media ranting about how the vaccine was brought to only wipe us out instead of save us. Many went as far as involving technology stating the virus is moving through networks using 5G. Which is totally not true. WHO(World Health Organization) has stated many times that the virus is transmitted when a person is in contact with an infected person. There are other countries who do even have 5G mobile networks but have covid 19. This proves that the virus does not travel through networks.

In conclusion, the virus is real and people need to take it seriously. We all want to defeat this virus one day so our lives can be back to normal, listening to hearsays and untrusted sources will not get us anywhere. People need to start taking all the necessary precautions and abide by the covid rules and regulations set by the government. Another thing is it is advisable to only look for information of trusted sources, for instance visiting World Health Organization website rather than social media. As we all know, social media has lots of misleading information and conspiracy theories that creates confusion and fear.

  12. A very appealing and informative blog. Purveyors are still disseminating disinformation regarding COVID-19 increasing panic and slowing down the progress of the fight against virus amongst people who lack precise information and necessary precautions to prevent themselves from this deadly virus therefore it is essential for organizations such as Fight together to help educate those individuals. Indeed the organisation will be of great help to also support people that lost their jobs or are unemployed during this pandemic as unemployment is also a serious social issue in our country.
